Alert: New Community Outreach Requirements in Seattle

The City of Seattle is revamping its design review process.  As part of that change, the city is now requiring that all projects going through design review conduct additional outreach to the community at the beginning of the project.

This is a new requirement in addition to the Land Use public notices, which remain a requirement. This will apply to all projects going through design review, including Administrative Design Review (ADR) and Streamlined Design Review (SDR).

Please note that the design review thresholds have also changed, so some projects will now be required to go through design review which hadn’t been required before. Read more on the city's website.

What Caron Anticipates

Caron Architecture anticipates this will cause an increase in the time and cost of permitting in Seattle. The impact will vary depending on the specific project location within the city. Projects which have submitted a complete EDG application prior to July 1, 2018 are not required to comply. Read more on the city's website.
