The 2218 First Avenue proposal was approved this week by the Downtown Design Review Board. This 8-story mixed-use project is located on 1st Avenue between Bell and Blanchard Streets in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood and will provide 59 residential units and 3,635 square feet of commercial space for the area. Taking inspiration from the area’s history as home to a range of industrial uses, the design features a prominent pattern of mullioned windows and referential materials recalling Belltown’s historic warehouse style. Entry and landscaping elements proposed along the street frontage include a convertible glass wall, table and bench seating, and a large overhang creating a strong visual presence while providing shading and weather protection. In addition to improvements made to the site’s relationship to 1st Avenue, the design will offer a more accessible experience for pedestrians and support the social atmosphere of the growing neighborhood.
