The Seattle office is seeking a Project
Architect/Manager with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, in-depth knowledge of all phases of design and construction, and diverse portfolio of built work, particularly in townhouse and multifamily small projects. Applicants must excel in leading small teams of 2-3 Associates, and working effectively and collaboratively with firm leaders, clients, and consultants. The Project Architect/Manager will be responsible in managing client relationships, and leading all phases of concurrent projects through to construction including budgeting, scheduling, planning, design, and construction documents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

DESIGN | Provides innovative, feasible design solutions specific to each project and client:
Meets with municipal building department and other government agency officials to coordinate approvals or variances
Directs the production of schematic and design development documents
Participates in client presentations and interviews
Regularly communicates with clients to verify design requirements and specifications, progress reviews, and delivery of final presentations
Understands and supports project design philosophies, overall design concepts, and project delivery methods

TECHNICAL | Expert in building codes, permitting, specifications, building and engineering systems:
Expertise in Washington state residential building codes and permitting process preferred
Responsible for the integration of design and technical aspects of projects
Expertise in architectural details, working drawings, construction practices, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness
Ensures that construction detail documentation conforms to Company quality assurance, quality control and best practice standards

LEADERSHIP | Reconciles the goals and priorities of Caron with those of clients while promoting opportunities for design and technical excellence:
Responsible for complete preparation, distribution, and retention of all project written and electronic records
Determines overall strategy for producing necessary design and construction documents, and identifying the sheets required for each design stage
Prepares and negotiates client and consultant proposals, fees, schedules, and contracts
Effectively communicates with the project team, client, and consultants on the progress and direction of concurrent projects
Defines, monitors, and maintains control of the scope of work and services for the project including project schedule and work plan
Monitors fulfillment of contract requirements and identifies changes in project scope, schedule, or service that result in supplemental or additional services and bring such changes to the immediate attention of the Principal and client
Ensures timely resolution of client concerns and management of business issues including contracts and additional services
Monitors the performance of project team and ensure all Company quality assurance, design goals, and client service standards are being met
Schedules and chairs all client and consultant meetings; prepares meeting minutes and documents action items
Reviews project team hours on a weekly basis to insure consistently with project plan, budget, and contract
Actively pursues the firm’s business and marketing goals by assisting the Principal in developing new business, and maintaining excellent client and consultant relationships


Professional degree in Architecture
Registered Architect with current license
Minimum 5 years’ experience as project architect or project manager
Diverse portfolio of townhouse and multifamily small projects preferred
Demonstrates collaborative and professional work ethic
Demonstrates extensive knowledge of architectural design, drafting, detailing, building materials, building codes, construction techniques and costs
Demonstrates extensive knowledge of general architecture practice including programming, scheduling, site planning, civil, structural, and engineering
Strong project budgeting and contract negotiation skills
Strong leadership skills and extensive experience in directing, mentoring and coordinating project teams
Strong interpersonal, verbal, listening and written skills, including project presentation skills
Proficient in 2D/3D software, including AutoCad, MS Office Suite, Creative Suite; proficiency in Revit a plus
